Thanks for letting us wear our crowns. I will admit I am jealous. That is something that I usually bring in on my birthday. Crowns are usually reserved for Ryan, but I will share the thank you. The crown in general has a DJ name, that he goes by occasionally. Oh my gosh, I and it’s actually my when I say I do my my sign on.

This is right hat Ryan Scott bringing you the hit V 102.9. Yes. You guys. Yes, yes. Ryan Scott bringing in an whenever whenever he’s ready to go. He has definitely practiced in front of a mirror. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yes. You’re like that kid in Hoosiers that only shoots underhanded. But when we need you, you’re going in? Yes, correct.
00;02;26;14 – 00;02;44;00

So if you’re feeling sick some morning. Well, actually, no, because he does not get up better. We’ve gotten some advance notice. He could start feeling ill during the show. Like how early? About eight. Yes. Oh, I can be ready by eight. I can do anybody. I’ve had a coffee, but I could do half a show. Thank you. Yes, yes by eight.
00;02;44;02 – 00;03;05;05

Yeah that I, I’m, I’m trying to be impressive. Gen nine would be ideal I really like okay. So 30 minutes. Yeah. Yeah I got it. Thank you. Yes. Yes. Just know that that is an option. So Eric and Claire, tell us a little bit more about yourselves and zero zero, 2.9. You go first. Me yeah. Oh, gosh.
00;03;05;06 – 00;03;34;10

Ladies. Ladies first. Yeah. So we are the morning scramble. We have been a team for how long? 2018. Since 2018. We we don’t get it. We we’ve been through a lot in a very short amount of time. Like, we’re not the longest running duo in radio history, but we have been through, pandemic and a derecho, and I feel like that made us grow close very quickly.
00;03;34;10 – 00;03;53;14
Unknown
We had to figure a lot of things out, and we had to be nimble. So I think kind of our superpower is make it work. We try to figure out a way to get around a lot of stuff all the time. It’s a big, big thing in this business. Just like in this room is chemistry and trust. And we would get there or we probably would be there by now.
00;03;53;29 – 00;04;13;16
Unknown
But I think we found it within a year, right? Because we went right into a pandemic. And the new address show, whether we’re broadcasting from my brother’s basement and you’re somewhere else, or we’re made to isolate in mandatory isolation, we were in different rooms for months upon months, which is just, I mean, prior to the pandemic, not really done.
00;04;13;16 – 00;04;31;22
Unknown
If you’re doing a show together and you need to play off of each other like you want to put us in separate rooms, you got to put us in separate houses. That’s just not as weird as possible. But it’s possible. Yes, FaceTime came in very handy in Zoom and Google Meet and all of that. While we’re doing the show, we had little pictures of ourselves down in the corner, so we can at least react with each other.
00;04;32;05 – 00;04;53;09

As far as even a 2.9, that frequency, 1 or 2 nine, has been a mainstay in Cedar Rapids for a very long time. When I started in this market, it was Kcrw all hit 203. And I started in 1993. So I’m playing a lot of probably in Vogue and Mariah Carey and I wrote that.
00;04;53;12 – 00;05;13;12
Unknown
Nothing wrong with that. There was an interesting moment in radio, in top 40, specifically where grunge became a thing and hip hop became a thing. And it’s like, I don’t know, those people sound sad and it’s always raining in Seattle. Let’s play this. And while hip hop is great and fun in this market, out of the gate, it scared a lot of people.
00;05;13;15 – 00;05;44;05
Unknown
And it did not work as a format. And we actually flipped to country in 1995, by playing I Swear by All for one into John Michael Montgomery’s version of I swear. That was a two year experiment where Kay Hawk continued to dominate. And just from a business standpoint, nobody filled the top 40 market. So C 1 or 2.9 came back on with a lot of market research, a bit of a war chest, and a strategic plan to just own the position that we had before.
00;05;44;22 – 00;06;01;16
Unknown
And we just like Rose right to number one and have kind of locked in ever since. So that was June 5th, 5 p.m.. Fastball the waves, the first song played on Z 1 or 2.9. Wow. Yeah. Wow. When you’re part of that team, I. I don’t have kids, but I got radio station. I was at the birth of a radio station.
00;06;01;17 – 00;06;19;21
Unknown
That was I was there. So Cedar Rapids just needed a few more months, years to to get there. Yeah. And you know, it’s one thing to program a radio station based on gut. It’s a whole different world when you’ve got the data and the research. And, I think at the time we would have found a place for all genres of music.
00;06;19;26 – 00;06;38;06
Unknown
But we I think we just leaned way too heavily one way, and it just didn’t quite click. And even on the countryside, we probably could have made a name for ourselves, but we didn’t quite know what we were doing, quite frankly. And most of those decision makers are gone. So I think I can say that I think I just wanted to for every record, I’m like, I think the song is going to be good, I don’t know.
00;06;38;12 – 00;07;05;04
Unknown
So you said June 5th. That was the, at 5 p.m. what year was that? What, 98? 98? Yeah. So we celebrated our 25th anniversary, in 2023. So we’re going on year 27 and for top 40 also that is rare. Yeah. Really for this type of format what is the lifespan of a station. You go to a lot of larger markets formats that are so dependent on fad.
00;07;05;06 – 00;07;26;27
Unknown
They burn rather quickly. So I mean, in my experience I was one in Saint Louis that was kind of an adult top 40. It lasted 3 or 4 years, tops. It was, 101.1 the river. And then they tried to do kind of an up tempo, but more late 90s, early 2000s. And that thing lasted maybe a year, and then it went sports.
00;07;26;29 – 00;07;44;15
Unknown
Yeah. Now, that’s also to say when you are corporately owned, right. Because you also have kind of a menu of stations you can throw on. Yeah we different that we’re different that way. Yeah. We’re locally owned and independent. So we have to adjust to those trends and fads knowing that this is the product that’s been doing so well.
00;07;44;15 – 00;08;03;24
Unknown
And how do you tweak here or tweak that to keep staying relevant. This might this might be the deep cut here. But like tell me a little bit more about that locally owned piece of it versus that corporate experience. And have either of you worked in that more corporate experience or I said, know I have only ever been Z 1 or 2.9 is my only experience.
00;08;03;24 – 00;08;28;09
Unknown
I tried a little bit of TV when I was in school and I just I really liked the radio. I don’t know, it just called to me more. So I’ve been at Z and I’ve known what an exceptional and rare place it is, so I’ve never been interested in trying it. Other places I would say to make the quick pitch on a, you know, local marketing and advertising agency in Cedar Rapids to Cedar Rapids businesses.
00;08;28;13 – 00;08;57;21
Unknown
We are you right. So we like to do business with those companies in town because we know this town. We know the air. I say it’s to say corridor, and can certainly, help companies grow by partnering with you. But it it what I think is the most important thing is all of the decisions are made locally, the music we’re playing, the people who are on the radio, the things we’re talking about, the nonprofits that we partner with, how we are interacting with our community, all of our DJs live here.
00;08;57;28 – 00;09;13;16
Unknown
So when we’re talking about what’s going on in the morning, we know you’re in line at school drop off. And because Clare lives that either on a morning or afternoon basis for pickup, we know that there’s an accident. We know that getting on Boise right now is a pain in the butt, because they’re working on all those ramps.
00;09;14;13 – 00;09;40;02
Unknown
God love your other really, really good morning shows that aren’t in this market. They don’t have that connection. So I think that gives us certainly an advantage when we’re talking on the radio. All of this came about just do a very simple little law change in like 1995 that allowed radio ownership groups and towns to own more than 1 or 2 frequencies where they could almost have a majority of the air signal or the, I guess, the audience advertising, percentage.
00;09;40;04 – 00;09;56;13
Unknown
And you just started to see these little conglomerates get bigger and bigger and bigger, and your clear channel iots, that’s how they grew. It was a small company in Ohio, and they just kept getting bigger and bigger. And in our market, Clear Channel is a big player. Town is a big player. There’s us, Mary Klass group.
00;09;57;01 – 00;10;21;02
Unknown
I feel like they’re local, which is nice because they’re headquartered here, but they own a small cluster as well. So yeah, we have to be a little bit more nimble when it comes to programing, but we really leaning heavily on the local. Yeah. We’re really we’re lucky. Between that and you think about, the Gazette being locally owned and independent newspaper here, I mean we, we are blessed in that we still have some of that.
00;10;21;02 – 00;10;44;02
Unknown
I mean, I know there’s shrinking markets, a donut. Yeah. Oh for sure. Yeah, yeah. But what is your, your footprint like the, the radius. What is your footprint. Yeah. I mean what footprint. Don’t say radius. Don’t say radius. Radius is a good word. We are backyard, primarily Cedar Rapids, Iowa City or Linn County. Johnson County. That is the data that we get and pay for.
00;10;44;02 – 00;11;03;22
Unknown
So we know exactly how many people are listening. But you could do a, engineering search of our tower, which, by the way, is in Hiawatha. We share it with Channel Nine’s weather tower. We easily get into basically the Kirkwood service territory about a seven county region. If you are listening, you can listen to the Quad Cities.
00;11;03;24 – 00;11;25;20
Unknown
You guys up Waterloo, down my neck of the woods. Washington, Mount Pleasant, easily into Newton. Depends on if you’re on the digital or analog signal without getting too technical, but yeah, that’s within about a 90 minute radius of Cedar Rapids. Okay, but our backyard, for sure is Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and with the Z 102.9 app conveniently on most cars infotainment systems.
00;11;25;23 – 00;11;44;19
Unknown
Yeah, you can be pulled in anywhere. Everywhere. We know we have listeners in Australia. We tried to buy a billboard in Australia about six months ago. We got this silly. Yes, we had our first meeting. We’re like, oh, we can agree to that price. We’ve got the, he just never called back. It must be a very different market.
00;11;44;19 – 00;12;04;29
Unknown
You would never get ghosted by a billboard salesperson. It’s just we want to give you money. Please. Yeah. No, we got contacted. I think he’s in radio as well in Australia. And he’s like, I was just looking through, different, radio websites, and I found yours. And it’s incredible thing. Like, I’m a huge fan of their daughter swears a lot.
00;12;05;02 – 00;12;21;28
Unknown
So we took calls on how to address that. And we got a lot of actually great, good technical advice. And so we thought we put up a billboard, like helping Australian families one at a time. The morning scramble, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and the Billboard guy had never got back to us. Unbelievable. Yeah, the spiders are big there, so I hope he’s okay.
00;12;21;29 – 00;12;47;22
Unknown
Oh, I never even thought I saw that. Yeah. Oh my God. They’re like softball size. Yuck, yuck. The spiders, the spiders. Everything is bigger on us. We’re like snakes. Spiders. Because. Yeah. Yes. Yeah, yeah. It’s got it all. They’ve got it all. Sky knows I know it’s rubber. Huge. Yes they are, they are in those. They’re they’re actually it’s on the Barbie.
00;12;47;28 – 00;13;09;01
Unknown
There actually is a hermit crab. I just said oh no. Knives are definitely bigger down there. Seven minutes in. We’ve lost seven minutes. Absolutely I’m absolutely default. No we’re still in the intro banter section. Don’t worry. Do not worry. We are still going to banter. I thought we were doing great. You know, when we moved us to the next section.
00;13;09;03 – 00;13;28;11
Unknown
I do want to shift this into our our actual topic discussion. We haven’t really talked about radio advertising yet. Just radio in general. So I want to talk about content advertising. So you’re right. I don’t know if you know this. You guys are radio hosts. But also a very strong content creators. How do you how do you keep things fresh with your content?
00;13;28;11 – 00;13;51;10
Unknown
You’ve got to go on every day, Monday through Friday you’re going on. How do you keep the four minutes? Yeah. How do you keep it fresh? There’s a lot of planning and then keeping it loose. It’s it’s it’s both at the same time. We, we we get together, we’ll do a big year kind of plan, like what we want in the future, in the year to come.
00;13;51;10 – 00;14;19;07
Unknown
We also do monthly meetings of, like, what should be the topics do your what’s important this week, that week breaking things down like that. And then there’s just week by week, day by day of filling in all of these holes. We have a sheet that we come up with topics, whether it’s what we’re planning on, thoughts and benchmarks, things that we know are going to happen, like our Z’s, please, Eric does the buzz things that we know at that time of the show, these certain elements will be happening.
00;14;19;11 – 00;14;37;00
Unknown
But then there’s the, kind of topics that we can kind of choose from, whether we want that to be a mom, to say a parenting topic, or if we want it to be, food. Well, maybe a try a taste it. Tuesday and so we can kind of play with whatever is going on, and kind of fit it to what we need it to be.
00;14;37;00 – 00;14;52;20
Unknown
Or we can kind of create our own content, too. Yeah. If you look at February of this year, we knew we were doing a cardboard about like that was already on the schedule, was there. We didn’t know what the world was going to look like. We had a verbal agreement with the rowing team that we’ll call you guys in April and figure it out.
00;14;52;27 – 00;15;09;10
Unknown
So that’s all that was sketched out? In February of this year. We had no clue we were going to go for a world record. No clue at all. And then I did a story in late March about the Savannah, bananas and Saint Louis. The City Museum accomplished the world record, and it looked so easy and attainable.
00;15;09;10 – 00;15;27;18
Unknown
They only did like 300 some people with banana hats. And we’re like, that is low. Let’s. Right. We could smash that. So that just took the show in that direction. Right. So we didn’t know that January, February. Just by talking. Yes. Getting yourself into trouble. You get inspired to do something. The snake that was found at Animal Care Control.
00;15;27;18 – 00;15;48;13
Unknown
My God, was I wanted to meet that snake so bad I got. Yeah. We didn’t, was a good service. Was that. His name was like. Yes, but was a girl. I don’t know what he got. Not. It doesn’t matter anymore. No more days of content out of that. We’re not right. You know, we saw a random Facebook post and I talked about it and then all sorts of things, and they’re like, you want to come meet the snake and get a picture with it?
00;15;48;15 – 00;16;05;27
Unknown
But then that opened up the conversation about how they’re having trouble with all of the animals. And then all of a sudden there was a story about it. We don’t have enough help, know there’s not enough budget. This building was built with the intent that we have a cat problem. And now that that’s under control, now we have a dog problem and we can’t house all those animals.
00;16;06;00 – 00;16;26;04
Unknown
So it’s like, how do we take these topics and kind of also help our community? Yeah, there’s just so many lenses. Is it going to be for the demographic? Does it fit a story? We both know we know enough. We could talk about it. The news is the news, but it’s kind of an entertainment news. It’s something that I think, well, we could riff on for a little bit.
00;16;26;04 – 00;16;40;09
Unknown
So all of those are just little things that are going on at our brain as we’re trying to put the whole show together, knowing that you can be totally formulated from 6:00 Am to 10 a.m., or keep a couple spots because you just never know what’s going to happen that day. And then I think that’s part of the show.
00;16;40;09 – 00;16;57;04
Unknown
We just have to be nimble that way and be able to be kind of proactive and reactive at the same time, and willing to not letting anything be too precious that you couldn’t switch it good. You know, you get attached to things that you’ve created, stuff that yeah, we worked a month on that. If it’s not going to work today, then we’ll come back to it.
00;16;57;04 – 00;17;16;15
Unknown
Yeah. The bits not quite gelling the way that we thought. Like we got it just oh we have that happen all the time. Yeah. It’s like yeah. Baking creative all the time. Sometimes you have to just put that good idea in your pocket right. Shut your mouth. And that’s hard on a boat for four years. And we finally did it this year because it just everything aligned and came together.
00;17;16;15 – 00;17;38;07
Unknown
So yeah, sometimes you don’t know where things are going to go and you just have to be ready, either ready to follow it or ready to give up on it, which know that we were on a pontoon. One of the houseboats. Yeah. We started out on a houseboat three hours and we the last hour of our show live on the river for a flower with your hat on your back and you have to wear whether this is your boat or not, you have to wear captain’s.
00;17;38;09 – 00;17;59;02
Unknown
Yes. Yeah. No, that was a really cool opportunity where they’re like, oh, you said you spoke it because we put some in vision boards for the year. Something I want to accomplish this year is being on a boat. And then somebody reach out there like, we have one of the houseboats. And that was such a cool experience because it was another piece of the community that we’ve never been a part of, never been up close.
00;17;59;02 – 00;18;18;18
Unknown
I mean, you know, you maybe bend down on the 3rd of July to see the fireworks or something, but I’ve never actually been on a houseboat. It’s literally a neighborhood of water. It is a community station. Oh, and the way that everybody is just like, well, hang on, let me let me talk to this guy or I don’t really know him, but I know that he has jet skis or whatever it is that we’re looking for.
00;18;18;18 – 00;18;34;10
Unknown
And they were just so willing to step up and help each other. It was really cool. So you guys can kind of put the call out there and, and things can come to you. Yeah, that’s one piece. Yeah, that’s one piece. But it’s like, hey, this is on my bucket list. This is my goal. I want to do these things and you get the opportunities that way.
00;18;34;12 – 00;18;52;01
Unknown
You also, the station does a great job of leveraging social media. What other channels are you guys on or how do you how do you distribute your content across channels? You’re a radio show, so how do you how do you create that content for social media? That can’t be. It’s not everyone’s first thought like, oh yeah, radio, social media.
00;18;52;13 – 00;19;11;18
Unknown
How have you evolved with that over the years? That’s evolved, I think. I mean, we’ve had to adapt to it over the since the show started. We went and we I honestly think that’s the one area that we’re still because the rules are like there aren’t rules. So we’re still trying to figure out what’s the strategy and what’s the game plan.
00;19;11;20 – 00;19;29;04
Unknown
Should it be a video? Should we just have a post with a question? What is what’s the best way to write? It’s to communicate with the audience. Living on Facebook is easy. So that one we can control. I don’t think we’ve had an account for quite a while. We’ve kind of abandoned that. Or maybe we have it, but I don’t know what station does most peop most places have abandoned.
00;19;29;04 – 00;19;50;12
Unknown
Yeah, yeah, we have a YouTube channel. And all the use and we use in this is Z10 2.9 as well as a radio station. We have TikTok and we have Instagram. So we actually have somebody on staff in addition to be on the radio is she keeps a calendar of what goes where, when, because some of that content is sold to advertisers.
00;19;51;07 – 00;20;12;13
Unknown
Sometimes we do giveaways on social media. Sometimes it’s a video, sometimes it’s going to be a feature. If it’s if it’s a question and we need to solicit responses, we want to make sure we’re not like overwhelming people’s Facebook feed. So something gets missed. That’s a great way of generating content for our show too, is that let’s throw a question out there and see how it does there.
00;20;12;13 – 00;20;31;24
Unknown
And maybe we use it on our show, or maybe we it doesn’t take off. And, you know, we try to stay up on TikTok trends, and recreate them when we can and we have time. I mean, if they say there’s one area that we just like, I feel like we’re not quite there, it is still adapting our daily scheduled, also adding that content.
00;20;31;29 – 00;20;48;25
Unknown
Yeah. Part of it. I don’t live in that world, so I have to have someone kind of bring it to me and like, okay, we can do that. I am totally willing to do whatever. Just tell me what your. Yeah, we’re bring it up. Play the game. Yeah, but it’s just in the course of everything else we’re doing that seems to be the one thing that we just have never found the focus for.
00;20;49;00 – 00;21;09;02
Unknown
But don’t discount it. We need to be in. We need to be on podcasts. We need to be on social media and, continue to be on the radio. When you were saying you plan it out for the year, but you you have intention, but you also keep it loose. Yes. That’s building marketing strategies. It’s like you you put the strategies in place, you have them, but you also have to be nimble.
00;21;09;02 – 00;21;26;06
Unknown
So you have to be reviewing it, seeing what’s working and be flexible. Sometimes be able to jump in, tweak it and then go forward so that when you were talking about the the content calendar, that instantly was like throwing up alerts in my head, I’m like, yes, this is something that you should be doing with marketing anyway. Yeah.
00;21;26;06 – 00;22;01;05
Unknown
I think what’s interesting about our business is we are kind of like retail. We’re very seasonal, so we already know some of the stuff we’re doing for Christmas. Right. So we need to be planned out for December, usually by July and August. Part of that sort of a content standpoint, some of it too, is so our sales staff can go out and hopefully find sponsors for our segments, whether we want to do big giveaways or if we’ve the last few years, actually, ever since Covid, one of my favorite things we do is call the Santa Line, where kids record messages to Santa that we play on the radio, and then Santa customizes an answer back,
00;22;01;25 – 00;22;16;07
Unknown
because in 2020, you couldn’t go to a mall you can sit on, oh my gosh, what are kids going to do? But we had this capability on our app that you can send us a voice message. And so we just asked all those voice messages, be your kids talking to Santa. And we can take that from there.
00;22;16;07 – 00;22;34;28
Unknown
And we got in touch with Santa and made it a response custom tailored to those kids. Satellite link to the North Pole and whenever we need it. So that whenever you just kind of flip the switch. But yeah, so it is it’s a weird, you know, checkers and chess game simultaneously. We’re back to school at this point.
00;22;34;28 – 00;23;00;18

We’ve we’ve pitched some ideas in the building. We’ll see if they go anywhere. But we’re probably about two weeks from discussing Halloween. Yeah, I would guess so. Yeah, I know it doesn’t. The stores are discussing Halloween and even Christmas. Oh yeah, I’m sure it’s out there. Yeah, yeah. But you know, you know, from a from a marketing and advertising standpoint, whether you’re doing a content calendar and you editorial wise, you kind of know what topics you’re going to cover in your blog post or your social media post.
00;23;00;25 – 00;23;17;16
Unknown
But yeah, also have the willingness to pivot when you need to pivot. And like you were saying, it’s okay if something gets flushed. Yeah, right. You can’t own it that personally that you aren’t willing to let it go. Exactly. Just because we do it every year. Well, maybe this year we don’t. Yeah, maybe this year it doesn’t work for us.
00;23;17;22 – 00;23;35;07
Unknown
It’s hard. I think it took both of us some time. Some things get precious. That’s my idea, right? Yeah. Why are we doing my idea? We’re doing your idea all the time. Yeah. Now we figured out, like, no, they’re our ideas. Yeah, and we just run with them. Yeah. You had mentioned your sales team and just all this planning that you do in advance.
00;23;35;07 – 00;24;05;15
Unknown
But, you know, when you’re when you’re thinking about, you know, the value of radio advertising in this community with a local station, how for, for our tens of listeners, who are for the most part in the marketing and advertising realm, talk about how radio listenership is measured now versus, you know, years ago when it was maybe a little bit more difficult to to measure and give statistics to potential advertisers.
00;24;05;18 – 00;24;24;29
Unknown
We yeah, we have we have ratings. We are able to calculate who is listening. They’re they’re surveyed and we have that, that data that we can provide to, anybody who’s potentially interested. But it is it’s kind of interesting to see the because you can see it break broke down based on who says they’re listening at what times.
00;24;24;29 – 00;24;45;00
Unknown
And so how do they know who’s listening to radio? They’re surveying them. It’s a it’s a survey. Yeah. So a diary goes, take a piece of paper, and put it into a trifold, and that’s as thick as it is. And you get this. So first of all, they they will recruit houses ahead of time because they want more than one person taking the survey in the household.
00;24;45;13 – 00;24;59;07
Unknown
And then it will be mailed to the home. Some mail, some homes get money, some don’t. Is that within then said the $2 bill to your house and they’re like, hey, yes, you want to do that? Yes, I, I’ve ever gotten a dollar. I’ve tried so many times and I’ve never been chosen. You have to. Oh, I’m so sorry.
00;24;59;07 – 00;25;16;23
Unknown
I work in the industry. The problem is you work in advertising and they will never let you do it. My my friend like you. Then you open it up and it’s like, Thursday to Wednesday and from 6 a.m. to midnight. And how I pencil, write down what you listen to, whether it’s the call letters or the frequency or the show.
00;25;16;26 – 00;25;35;00
Unknown
You fold it back up, you mail it back in somebody’s data entries that in Washington, DC, and then turns around and sells it back to us, and then we pay for a license to comments. And yeah, and that’s when you said you buy you were talking about the the area you buy and you buy the info for Cedar Rapids.
00;25;35;00 – 00;25;53;14
Unknown
I buy this Cedar Rapids Metro, we can buy the Cedar Rapids Iowa City metro and they’ll, they’ll, they’ll break it down and sell it to you in however many different slices of the pie you want. You want to, what I’ve loved about it, because I was in sales for a year is the the data they sell back to you is then put into a computer program.
00;25;53;14 – 00;26;10;09
Unknown
So if we’re trying to sell a client commercials and they’re like, this is the demographic, this is the number of times we want a commercial to air per day, or we want to make sure we’re hitting a frequency of 3 or 4. It’ll give you a variety of templates. You can go back and say this is or schedules like, this is the best schedule we could sell you.
00;26;10;25 – 00;26;34;07
Unknown
So yeah, data collection is rather, I guess, informally collected in a very formal way in our market. You go, I don’t know if Des Moines is, but you got a top market, say top 100. It’s different. It’s different. They use an inaudible signal built in the radios or. Yeah, two frequencies. And then people, there’s like a watch, a pager or a watch or you have a something at your home.
00;26;34;12 – 00;26;50;09
Unknown
So the moment you turn the signal on, they know exactly how long you’ve tuned in and when you’ve turned it off. And that’s a lot more specific than, oh, I think I listened from this time of this. Simon might be off the game of estimation. Yeah, but we all subscribe to it. So that kind of settles itself out in the wash.
00;26;50;09 – 00;27;13;12
Unknown
But yeah, that, personal people meter is what they’re called. Yeah. Purple. Purple purple people. People meter meter. We don’t have here. Now and from what I’ve been told to, those stations are programed a little bit differently just because part of the game is trying to get on that list as often as possible, and to also keep people listening as long as possible.
00;27;13;15 – 00;27;33;29
Unknown
You will notice in Cedar Rapids, and this isn’t a big trade secret. There are some months where you hear radio stations do large cash contests. Ratings are going on, and the goal is to get you listening at either certain times of day or to carry you through every 15 minutes, because that translate into better data for us than we can turn back around and sell to our advertisers.
00;27;33;29 – 00;27;56;09
Unknown
So we could track that. We could track our stream. We you guys well know there’s a lot of data Facebook can provide to you, so we know how posts are doing. That’s other information we could turn around and, show some of this is validation podcasts too. You can see how many people are listening to a podcast, web trends, clicks, how deep they’re going in, how much time they’re spending on it.
00;27;56;16 – 00;28;16;14
Unknown
We try to harvest as much of that. If it helps tell the story of why you should be advertising with us. What does listenership look like around here? I would say, because I’ve been looking at these, I was part of that group that gave birth as you went on 2.9 radio overall is down across that 25 year period, but not as much as you’d think.
00;28;16;27 – 00;28;35;26
Unknown
And we really have car radios to thank for that. Radio has been in an interesting competitive environment since the beginning of radio. There’s always been the next thing to take it down the moment, and a track player went into a car that then turned into a cassette player, that then turned into a CD player, that then turned into an MP3 player that just turned into satellite radio.
00;28;35;26 – 00;28;54;04
Unknown
And this is the thing that’s going to kill radio in a billion times, as long as we’re ahead of that or reacting to it, or podcast being part of it, we’ve been able to respond to it. So the game is to keep proving where we’re relevant, and that’s where I keep coming back to. Why I think the local component is important.
00;28;54;07 – 00;29;11;15
Unknown
If you’re stuck from North Liberty to the airport and you don’t know why traffic’s moving or heaven forbid, we can get there, actually, heaven help you. We can get you somewhere else before you get into that, right? You’re not. Get that anywhere else. So finding those opportunities, I think, to sell that we can provide that has been very important.
00;29;11;27 – 00;29;28;29
Unknown
But for our show specifically, I mean, we’ve watched our audience grow over time, both in terms of cume, the number of people who stop into the store and then how long they’re listening. Yeah. And keeping in mind that we are talking to a family, our our show is, you know, the whole family together listening in one vehicle.
00;29;28;29 – 00;29;48;04
Unknown
So we try to keep that in mind too, with who we’re talking to and how we’re talking to them. So, what you say, what we say, I mean, it is an adult show, but we we’re not, we’re a little bit more cautious with, especially I never felt weird about having it. Having the radio on deal 1 or 2.9 with our kids.
00;29;48;04 – 00;30;09;25
Unknown
Exactly. Yeah. We want the kids to be comfortable. Moms and dads be comfortable. Everybody’s did at 605 than it is at 735. Just because we of do it in the car when. Yeah. And all of that again is data that, is all part of these, services that we pay for. What would you say, when you think about a local media buy and a local media buy could be I mean, it could be Gazette.
00;30;09;25 – 00;30;35;20
Unknown
It could be 1 or 2.9, could be network TV. By what would you say that the local media by offers an advertiser that these conglomerates or the streaming like just plugging into a Spotify feed or whatever offers advertisers we are probably able to understand, this market a little bit better because we’re in this market, we know how to talk to people who live here because we live here.
00;30;35;20 – 00;31;01;12
Unknown
We know what appeals to people because that’s what we’re going through. So I think it it just makes sense that we know how to talk to you, and meet you where you’re at. I think the strategy component is probably where we shine. You’re going to be lured into those worlds with a very low price point, but then you have no say when it’s running, or how many other things are around it and is your same product category right next to you.
00;31;01;29 – 00;31;21;21
Unknown
You deal with us, and we, and I, we guarantee. But we see the commercial logs every day. We’re not playing two car dealerships back to back. We try to keep the set of commercials to under either number of units or minutes or minutes or under. In a challenge, you go to any other radio station to this market that’s corporately owned.
00;31;21;25 – 00;31;45;25
Unknown
Those are 8 or 9 minute commercial breaks. Yeah. You are losing audience, which here is a whole drive home sometimes for many people. Yeah. You’re right. You’re not even staying with a radio station for content. You you started with it. And and in their world you’re mixed also with national competitors. Right. We have national advertising as well. But a lot of personalization and customization goes into putting that schedule together on a local standpoint to make sure.
00;31;45;25 – 00;32;04;17
Unknown
Because our reputation’s on the line, too, we want to make sure that you’re getting the results that you’re going for with the strategy or the plan that we’ve put together for you. And then I could I make the claim that I think we bring a level of creativity that I was gonna say our team takes a lot of pride in the creativity that we put in to the product.
00;32;04;17 – 00;32;35;18
Unknown
We’ve seen that firsthand. Yeah. For sure. I mean, it’s becoming more and more rare for stations to help you with getting your message put together and put it together in a way that, your story is told creatively. And, there’s kind of more a little bit more of a creative element in it. Yeah. Because everybody’s going to say we’re trying to find unique sales proposition, and but you I think a lot of the messaging just sounds very identical and almost cloned across, different radio stations or streaming services where, you know, we have a creative services writer and director on staff.
00;32;35;18 – 00;32;58;10
Unknown
And I think that’s that’s probably very rare if in this market, if you’re working with the other station, that person’s probably if they’re in Iowa, you’re lucky. Yeah, making that assumption. But I feel pretty confident about that. Bringing in clients, being able to record them, tell their stories, just like your team in this room, listening to, ten minute interview to get a 62nd commercial by finding the best elements.
00;32;58;17 – 00;33;23;03
Unknown
That’s all part of the package. If you want to work with us, there is a weird kind of like intimacy with podcasting or with with radio that you are speaking. I mean, we’re speaking to each other, but you’re also kind of overhearing what we’re talking about, and we build a relationship with people that way. So, when you’re thinking about advertising, you know, these are voices that you can trust because we talk to you each and every day.
00;33;23;03 – 00;33;41;14
Unknown
And there’s kind of a familiarity there, especially if we you feel like you get to know your hosts. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Radio reinvent podcasts us like the, the US cellular family days or the US. So yeah. Yeah. But that’s a that’s a host. Right. Stays up, stays. Yes. And that’s something that maybe they do in other communities as well.
00;33;41;14 – 00;33;58;29
Unknown
But like you reading it and you talking about it adding in your own flair, I think that because it is it’s very clear, like it’s for you. Exactly. Because it has for it. Yeah. Okay. You’re good to add that in and it just makes it seem so much I mean, it is authentic. And that is why I think those ads stand out in are a little bit more special.
00;33;59;02 – 00;34;17;01
Unknown
And I will tell you, because some companies do not do this, our requirement in the building is we will not endorse a product we don’t use. Right. And I don’t, which is I don’t know if that’s the same across the board, but that is our reality. It’s not. So when we’re endorsing Duncan, we’ve got the Duncan app, we’re using our Duncan dollars.
00;34;17;01 – 00;34;39;13
Unknown
So because we a yes, we authentic we believe in that. We want to provide a first hand experience. And if we’re putting our name on that right, there’s a contract there we have with the listening audience. And we don’t want to let you down or lead you down a road. That maybe ourselves have never done before. And there are some case studies where some larger radio groups are taking endorsement deals and then, like you’re the copy points, read what’s on.
00;34;39;13 – 00;34;57;03
Unknown
And then that always that that rub the wrong way when I wasn’t doing it. Now they’re doing more and more of it. Yeah. We there’s a lot of we scrutinize that before that stuff makes the air. And maybe in a larger market you don’t get to see your radio host out in public. They’re not people aren’t coming up to you and asking you about Duncan.
00;34;57;03 – 00;35;22;20
Unknown
Right. But but we’re you guys are very much in the car. Yeah, you’re in the community, so people are coming up to you talking about the show, which sometimes has advertisements in it. So you have to be authentic. You know, you talked about trust earlier. And I think that that is such a part of a brand is is it something that I can trust that if I put this on when I’m driving my kids to school in the morning, that Claire’s not going to drop the F-bomb, right.
00;35;23;04 – 00;35;40;24
Unknown
That that’s a part of the trust, too. That’s part of your brand. We talked about that before you even got started here today. That that is what people can expect from you. And when you vary from those things in significant ways, whether you’re, on air personality brand or you’re a consumer brand, then you break trust.
00;35;40;24 – 00;36;02;14
Unknown
And that’s just important, right? Yeah. Disappointing. We never want to do that. Because we also have to assume trust, too. We’re we’re making stuff up. We’re talking on the fly. I think we always it’s always with the right intent. There will be an occasional, breakdown. Maybe it’s a bad analogy, or we’re trying to use a metaphor.
00;36;02;14 – 00;36;23;24
Unknown
And in the moments, miscommunication does happen. But a key to that, and I’m sure you guys can speak to this with your clients, is how do you react to that moment. And they’re it’s great to also have management. Yes. To step in and and help, smooth that kind of stuff over and we we’ve got really, great people behind us who will help us in those situations.
00;36;23;24 – 00;36;41;25
Unknown
But for the most part, also let us be creative and say what we’re going to say, but then have our back with yeah, sometimes if it doesn’t experiment or play or try it, satire. And you sometimes you don’t know what’s going to land. A lot of times I think we think we’re funny and sometimes maybe that doesn’t play as well.
00;36;41;28 – 00;37;04;12
Unknown
Or that specific segment was not. Got it. Yeah. Don’t do that again okay. Good to know okay fine. We’ll take the feedback. Yeah. Appreciate it. Love feedback communication key to trust right. Yeah. So it’s both ways. So you referenced earlier you know eight track and then cassette players and then CDs. And now we’ve got streaming but radio Libsyn why do you think that is.
00;37;04;14 – 00;37;29;15
Unknown
We’re dinosaur killers. Because we, we are the people who brought down the dinosaurs. No, I think it’s just because, you have enough choices to make during your day, right? And you have a lot going on. I think that radio has always been there, and it’s always, maybe not something that you chose, but you were surprised by and interested in and, got your attention.
00;37;29;15 – 00;37;45;07
Unknown
Maybe it was a new song. Maybe it was something that we said, maybe it was. Oh, I didn’t know it was going to rain later today. Whatever that thing is that maybe you weren’t expecting to hear, you’re going to get it from your radio, and you can kind of depend on that day by day. So I think there’s a familiarity.
00;37;45;12 – 00;38;13;12
Unknown
I think that’s a key component. I think what’s also unique is we evolve as you evolve. It is specifically our format. We’re talking to people who are just graduating college, buying their first car, getting engaged, having a baby. And oh, by the way, we’ve been through all of these things. So there’s a relate ability factor and we’re going to meet you where you are now like right this second because it’s a traffic, isn’t it?
00;38;13;12 – 00;38;35;16
Unknown
Or oh my God, there’s a tornado on the ground or oh good. FEMA’s in town today and I don’t know how I’m going to get siting for my house. Or. Oh, I guess I haven’t thought about where my parents need to live when they are 20 years older. I’m ready to have that conversation. We’re with you every moment of that and everything else you just listened while entertaining and somewhat distracting.
00;38;36;05 – 00;38;58;08
Unknown
Can’t provide that. So I think there’s an yeah, we’re real and there’s an authenticity to it, and timing is everything. And we’re always there. Yeah. And you’re able to juggle all of that while you’re getting ready and going to work and and absorbing some information as well. And personally on you were either in your car. Yeah. We’re on a smart speaker in your pick your room or your house.
00;38;58;17 – 00;39;20;15
Unknown
Or if you’re on our app. Right. We’re we’re in your pocket or your purse. So, yeah, you have evolved away from just the radio itself, right? You’re radio, but you’re on. You can get it however you want pretty much everywhere. Yeah, exactly. And it’s interesting. I was just doing a little bit of traveling over the weekend, and we’re going through state by state and kind of tuning the radio because I’m a nerd like that and I want to know what’s going on.
00;39;20;15 – 00;39;39;05
Unknown
But it is interesting to hear what a community feels like, you know, just by listening to that, that frequency, you can kind of get a vibe for what you’re listening to. Which direction did you go? East. West? We went, through Chicago. We went to Michigan, so we went through Indiana radio stations. We went through, Chicago. Yeah.
00;39;39;06 – 00;39;59;05
Unknown
Up in thank you, thank you quadrant. Thank you. Eric I don’t know direction. No, he does not. But I know up, down, left, right. So long as it doesn’t working on it. You are upright. That is something that I have always said to me. I’m always facing north, like a G.P.S.. Like I’m always facing north. North. So it has always been very confusing.
00;39;59;05 – 00;40;19;12
Unknown
And directionally, I just do not know. Geography. The one floor I have is geography. Unfortunately, one floor, you only have one for you. And it’s tough, it being geography. I feel like Ryan didn’t have that puzzle that had the states that like we had as kids or maybe your kids have had. But I don’t feel like Ryan got enough time with that puzzle.
00;40;19;13 – 00;40;39;26
Unknown
I have been gifted this puzzle multiple times in my life. As a 34 year old man and I have, I’ve had I still have one that is perfectly sealed in, in plastic wrap. Because it’s too late. Can’t learn. It’s too late. It’s too late. Yeah. What would I make fun of you for? Because you’re a plus other only foil only plus.
00;40;39;26 – 00;41;01;06
Unknown
I don’t want people to get jealous. I should have off just one. Just one. So now it’s time for our segment called Creative Briefs. This is where we dig into a marketing campaign, company or idea and see what insights we can learn from all of their marketing moves. Now, this is not an official creative brief, but I want to revisit a previous one.
00;41;01;11 – 00;41;21;28
Unknown
This took place probably a few months ago. Kellogg’s rebranded the cereal company you know and love. They rebranded and launched a fun new marketing campaign. And from our listeners, you know, they really just zoomed in on the G of Kellogg’s for their rebrand. But they had a really fun marketing campaign that went along with it, and I don’t this is this is recent.
00;41;21;28 – 00;41;44;05
Unknown
So Kellogg’s was recently acquired by Ferrero Rocher. I think that’s how you say we’re going to go with it. We’re going with it. I believe that’s correct. Thank you. Gold balls. Yeah. Yes. The company that makes those golden bonbons is set to acquire the cereal division of Kellogg’s for, a small amount, $3.1 billion. That’s really isn’t that much money, though, to me, that is insane.
00;41;44;11 – 00;42;10;08
Unknown
Just thinking about acquisitions, I guess. I don’t know how much, a company of this size and scale should cost, but 3.9 billion seems crazy to me. I don’t know, but that’s also the company North America, North America. Ferrero also owns Nutella, kinder, Tic Tacs, as well as nerds, Trolli gummies and also Halo Top. So they’ve built quite the the Empire, and now they’re adding cereal to this empire.
00;42;10;10 – 00;42;27;22
Unknown
Yeah. Which just makes you ask the question, like, is there going to be more chocolate cereal? As a result of this? And like, first of all, I just have to ask you, do you do you think chocolate belongs in cereal? I like this could be a jury in a hurry. Kind of. Kind of. I grew up on Cocoa Pebbles.
00;42;27;27 – 00;42;51;12
Unknown
I love pops and Count choc. Okay. Yeah. Yes. You believe it belongs in cereal? So more. More sugar? Yeah. Chocolate and sugar. Cereal has to have it. Yes, because it’s a form of energy. It is power. It is a part of a balanced breakfast and. Well. And that’s what we all grew up with was the cereal was part of our balanced breakfast.
00;42;51;18 – 00;43;13;26
Unknown
So to have orange slices and a little bit of toast and that’s a balanced breakfast. Yes. Yeah. ABS. Turns out it was just a bowl of sugar. Yes. But that’s okay. Marketing the market. Exactly. So given that we live in and maybe not, it’s definitely not the biggest cereal producing metros, but it is a large we produce a lot of cereal.
00;43;13;26 – 00;43;35;07
Unknown
You’re, First of all, it begs the question, how can cereal battle back from declining sales? So he says $3.1 billion seems like a lot, $3.1 billion for a market cap. And a company like Kellogg’s actually seems surprisingly low to me. But that is because once upon a time, we were told this was all healthy and the cereal aisle was huge.
00;43;35;07 – 00;43;54;25
Unknown
Right? The cereal aisle these days is not so huge, right? There’s not so many brands anymore. And there’s also more knockoffs, right? There’s more discount brands or store brands. So you’re not paying as much of a premium on taking it and changing how you consume it. Turning the cereal into a cereal bar, you know a lot more, right?
00;43;54;26 – 00;44;15;14
Unknown
You remember that when they made, like, the Coco Crispy bars, I was like, we only have cereal on one side now. We’re like, I remember walking down, it was two sides cereal, but now it’s cereal on one side and it’s like breakfast on the go on the other. Yeah. It’s weird. Yeah. Like energy drinks and protein shakes. Everything’s got protein in it, which makes cereal taste bad.
00;44;15;25 – 00;44;37;14
Unknown
Is what what I’ve determined. I’m, I’m. When I saw that this company, Ferrero also owns nerds. It got me thinking, like nerds was a candy that was very popular years ago. No one was buying nerds. But then they came out with the nerds rope, which was a little bit less convenient, but still more convenient than the packages of nerds.
00;44;37;26 – 00;44;54;25
Unknown
And then they started cutting up those ropes into the clusters and now it’s delicious. It’s phenomenal. When my daughter was in Spain that’s what we brought over for a gift for the family because they all they wanted was what they called gummy clusters. And oh my gosh. And they like Anna brought some over when she went.
00;44;54;25 – 00;45;14;18
Unknown
And then when I was coming to visit her a month later, she was like, mom, buy a lot of gummy clusters. So that’s what they have them there? No, they didn’t have them there. They had. Yeah. I wonder if we are with with this new purchase. I wonder if we are going to have a rebrand or a recreation of cereal, like, are we going to get cereal clusters?
00;45;14;18 – 00;45;38;14
Unknown
Are we going to get. Yeah. Are we going to get some cross-promotion with some of the candies in this area. Like there something will change. I think with this acquisition I’m very curious. Each box has gold foil wrapped. You can find man with a tall cap and 3000g of fat. Yes. So others not everything I can easily see a nerds something a nerd series, right?
00;45;38;15 – 00;46;00;26
Unknown
We’re not all colors. Yeah, the milk turns all kinds of things. It just take like, you know, you’ve got the Kellogg’s Flake, right? If they could turn that colors and have it be like Fruity Pebbles, but with big flakes. Now, that would be a sexy cereal. What’s that? What what is that candy? Cereal? That’s cereal. Sexy cereal.
00;46;00;26 – 00;46;23;17
Unknown
What’s that? Candy that, like, Feels like something’s blowing up in your mouth. Pop rocks, pop rocks. So if they did a pop Rock cereal, it’s like taking the Rice Krispies. Like snap, crackle, pop. Yeah, times like a hundred to the extreme. All explosions, I think. I think that’s an option that could look cool as well with the milk, because then the milk is starting to bubble like, okay, this the milk is like your own little bit.
00;46;23;21 – 00;46;48;24
Unknown
Oh, I would say that this is not going to pass anything with RFK Jr probably. I. All right. So we we have a game for you. We want to know how well, you know, your cereal brand. So think to yourself, who are who are some of the top brands of cereals? So do you want to say that I’m not the type of cereal like the the manufacturers of cereal?
00;46;48;24 – 00;47;11;03
Unknown
Yeah. Who manufactures post, Quaker, Quaker, General Mills, General Mills, Kellogg’s. Yep. Those are the big four. That’s the big. Whose rip off ones? Is it? Just the individual? I think it’s just the bags. Oh, yeah. The bags. The bag of cereal. Bag of cereal. Yes. All right. So I’m going to name it. There’s the word. It’s like motto Valley or something.
00;47;11;06 – 00;47;28;29
Unknown
Yeah. Oh it’s like a motto. Me that’s what it last motto meals, cereals. Yeah. Somebody made small town meal. I don’t know who, but they’re still in business. Good for them. All right. So I’m going to name some some types of cereal, some brands of cereal that you might be familiar with. And I want you to tell me who makes it.
00;47;29;01 – 00;47;45;00
Unknown
Oh, okay. Ready. Okay. This one, this one. We’ll see how you do. I’m going to give you maybe up to ten, like Annie, can you keep track? And just like when I get to nine, like, make sure I, I know I’m, I’m at the end here. So anyway, going double or nothing. Double or nothing. There’s no money. Final jeopardy.
00;47;45;01 – 00;48;12;21
Unknown
No prize. Bragging rights. Bragging rights. Yes. So. All right, who makes Cocoa pebbles? Whoop, whoop. I don’t know if I’m supposed to do that. I like chairman. Yeah. Eric post ding ding ding. All right. Is that, Froot Loops? Boop boop. Claire. That would be Kellogg. Yeah, yeah, you got it. Okay. You got it. We are tied one, two one.
00;48;12;22 – 00;48;33;07
Unknown
Oh, my. All right, if you guys get this one wrong, Cap’n Crunch. Boop boop. Dang it, Claire Quaker. Okay. You quit. I know you just keep your thumb right there on the button, all right? Okay. This one is in the bag for Eric. I’m pretty sure Lucky Charms. Woo woo. Oh, general Mills, general Mills right here in Cedar, right?
00;48;33;08 – 00;49;03;19
Unknown
Yes. Right. Right next to the Honey Nut Cheerios. All right, how about Trix? Keep in Kellogg and, General Mills, general Mills, Raisin Bran. Oh, crap. Poop, poop. There’s something wrong with the button. Running low in batteries. Can I guess Kellogg again? Yeah, it’s got a good post. Score update. We are tied at 3 to 3.
00;49;03;20 – 00;49;31;28
Unknown
No way. How many are we having there? We’ve got six. Okay, how about Frosted Mini Wheats? Okay. What? Here’s I could see the box. Claire can’t see the post. Post? Frosted mini-wheats. Yeah. Not post, not post Eric with the Eric with the steal. Kellogg’s. Kellogg’s. Kellogg. Here’s one that, I haven’t even thought about this one in a long time.
00;49;31;28 – 00;49;53;10
Unknown
Apple jacks. But yeah, Kellogg’s. It’s Kellogg because it’s the same flavor is fruity, as, Froot Loops. Loops. Yeah. What? And shape? Yeah. Same shape, same machines and Froot Loops are all the same flavor. Oh, those are good. Just with more cinnamon on the apple and more cinnamon. Yeah. All right. It’s just the power of suggestion, right?
00;49;53;11 – 00;50;04;08
Unknown
It is marketing with my. Oh. All right, let’s see. How about life cereal? Oh.
00;50;04;11 – 00;50;37;25
Unknown
I think the answer is who cares? So no. Claire. Yeah. Kellogg. Long? Nope. Dang it. Life cereal. Then I think it’s. Boop boop post. No, wait. No. Boop boop. We had two left. I know the answer. Now it’s Quaker. It is Quaker. Oh, we’re coming back with 3 or 4. We’ve got. We’re we’re almost time. We’re at 9 to 5.
00;50;37;25 – 00;51;01;18
Unknown
Claire, you are behind. You can bring us to a tie causing a sudden death. Well, I’ve got five and you’ve got four. Okay. This one where you can tie that hard one for this one. But it was already hard. Honey Bunches of Oats. Do you do? Claire for the tie. Claire for the tie. Quaker oats? No. Oh.
00;51;01;18 – 00;51;23;11
Unknown
It’s, Well, if I don’t answer, I still win. Yes. Unless she. Unless you get it wrong and she can come back and I could steal again. You’re not out. You’re not out, Claire. No. Honey bunches of oats. And what did you say, Claire? I said Quaker, I’m going to go boop, boop. General Mills and Claire Kellogg and.
00;51;23;16 – 00;51;43;15
Unknown
No, no. Oh, wow. He was handsome by default. He rolls by the phone. Is that how you wanted to do it, though? The win by default. Yeah. I just want to say that this is an AI generated list, so it all might be wrong. I did order me wrong. I swear to you. I can remember that there was a lady and she was making honey badgers.
00;51;43;15 – 00;52;03;01
Unknown
Look, we’re feeding America. Yes, we’re feeding America. Where it was done in Cedar Rapids. In my mind, it’s entirely possible that it might have sold at one point in time, too. Oh, good. Yes. Very good call. I was going to say he’s a Hawkeye football fan. We’re punting. Is winning. Of course I want to win by default. Defense wins right now.
00;52;03;04 – 00;52;29;07
Unknown
Great job on that Eric. You get to keep your crown. Thank you. Congratulations. You give this back. Yes. Sorry if if you were to say that Z 102.9 was a cereal. Oh, great. What cereal would it be? Oh, it’s a cereal. It’s a cereal. Okay, so it’s fun, It’s bright. It’s a little irreverent. Yeah. It’s got an edge.
00;52;29;18 – 00;52;47;14
Unknown
It’s it’s packed with good stuff. But it’s not always good. It’s a little bad too. But like bad. Good. You know what? It’s not good for you. Oh, no. No friends. It is not good for you. This is good monster cereal. Yeah. Oh, yeah. For sure. You beg your mom for this cereal? It’s not Wheaties.
00;52;47;14 – 00;53;01;29
Unknown
We know that. No no no no no no no no no no no no, it’s not shredded. I think there’s no wheat in our cereal. This to me, it’d be like Hidden Treasures cereal. When I was growing up, where there was something in the nugget and it was like frosting. I know what it is. All right. I’ll keep it to myself.
00;53;01;29 – 00;53;23;06
Unknown
What’s in the frosting? The frosting is what it is. Oh, I know it is. Frosting. I know I want to say Lucky Charms just because I’m just such a Lucky Charms fan. Because you get the variety. You also get a little, milk coloration when you’re done, which is great. Nice. Yeah. Little circles to be circular, for sure.
00;53;23;08 – 00;53;46;06
Unknown
What about cinnamon Toast Crunch? No, it’s not colorful. The brown is not that. It’s kind of beige is beige. That’s true. What? What do you got? I think it’s those little ball things. Have you seen the Trix rebrand? Trix? So remember. So Trix is rebranded and gone away from the shapes, and now they’re just balls as well.
00;53;46;06 – 00;54;08;22
Unknown
Yes. So, Trix, Trix kicks that, but it’s colorful with marshmallows. The same with marshmallows. Oh, I want that with marshmallows. Yes, yes, I want a colorful ball cereal with marshmallows. I want one of the Halloween ones, too. The Halloween ones were always more fun. So our answer is sexy cereal. Sexy cereal. I they come up with, like, bad good.
00;54;08;22 – 00;54;27;17
Unknown
You know, Claire Duffy Crunch Berries is probably the right answer because that’s different than Captain Crunch. Yes it’s true. Yeah. It’s that’s a good point. Yeah. Oops. If you sell fresh berries or crunch fries with the Captain Crunch along with it, I think maybe with it. Okay. I think Crunch Berries with an occasional Cap’n Crunch in there. Yes.
00;54;27;17 – 00;54;46;10

Unknown
So if you’re feeling sick some morning. Well, actually, no, because he does not get up better. We’ve gotten some advance notice. He could start feeling ill during the show. Like how early? About eight. Yes. Oh, I can be ready by eight. I can do anybody. I’ve had a coffee, but I could do half a show. Thank you. Yes, yes by eight.
00;02;44;02 – 00;03;05;05
Unknown
Yeah that I, I’m, I’m trying to be impressive. Gen nine would be ideal I really like okay. So 30 minutes. Yeah. Yeah I got it. Thank you. Yes. Yes. Just know that that is an option. So Eric and Claire, tell us a little bit more about yourselves and zero zero, 2.9. You go first. Me yeah. Oh, gosh.
00;03;05;06 – 00;03;34;10
Unknown
Unknown
Unknown

Unknown
Like something went wrong. I’ll go with that. And the green ones there, the blue with the green ones with the. Thank you, thank you. I think it smells good at our place most days. I know it’s just like factory. Most days. I like that we live in an area that has a signature scent. Yeah. Oh, yeah. We do stretches like going to the Hilton.
00;54;46;10 – 00;55;13;21
Unknown
Yeah, except different. Well, Eric and Claire, thank you so much for being on our podcast. This was amazing. Now we know what type of cereal this is. This is phenomenal. Do you know I don’t think we got one. That was a great answer because we don’t it’s still stuck on sexy cereal. It’s going to be sexy. Yeah. One thing we know from producer Ben better presents sexy cereal.
00;55;13;23 – 00;55;34;03
Unknown
We’ll work on it. There you go. Can I have to beg your mom for this? Where the lights are low and the candles are out. You know, it’s time for breakfast. That this is going to make it. We’re getting all worked up. That’s going to be at the front of the show before anything else.
00;55;34;06 – 00;55;55;27
Unknown
I love it, but yes, thank you for a few hours of laughs. This is phenomenal. And where where can they find you? Where can they find you? Well, for sure, Z10 2.9 on your FM dial. Yes, of course, k z Viacom streaming. We are streaming there actually. Anywhere you get our stream or podcast, you will find us as well as well.
00;55;56;08 – 00;56;17;06
Unknown
I want to go back to our website because we have a morning scramble page that has more information than I ever realize. If we’re doing something behind the scenes, the headlines are always there. You always know the stories we’re talking about. We always list what’s coming up on the show next. So it gives a nice behind the scenes, endorsement of what’s happening with us.
00;56;17;09 – 00;56;33;03
Unknown
Those would be the big ones. There is the 1 or 2.9 YouTube channel. There’s is you 1 or 2.9 TikTok. There’s you want to point on Instagram. We can find you everywhere, everywhere. And if there’s a farmers market, we’re at it. Is there another Z 102.9 in the world that you know of? I don’t know, think Z 102.9.
00;56;33;07 – 00;56;52;05
Unknown
I mean there’s other like if you type in Z 102.9, you’re going to get to you somehow. Yes for sure. Yeah. I was thinking like, at least Google knows you’re typing from here, so you better get us. I think we I don’t think you need to talk to those digital. I think there’s a kaseya that’s a company, but there’s no other call letters because there can’t be.
