The Need: Nonprofit Marketing

Marketing plays a crucial role in uplifting the work of Iowa nonprofits, raising awareness about their mission and impact, engaging the community, and boosting donations through targeted campaigns. By leveraging marketing strategies, nonprofits can measure their impact, attract more resources, and ultimately make a more significant difference in the lives of the individuals and communities they serve.

For many nonprofits, the struggle to secure funding for marketing services is a challenge. Budgets are often stretched thin across essential programs and services, meaning there are few resources left to invest in marketing—putting these organizations at a disadvantage. They face the uphill battle of trying to make a meaningful impact but are hindered by the inability to access the tools and expertise needed to share their story and connect with their audience effectively.

The Solution: Fresh Impact

At de Novo, creativity is the essence of who we are, enabling us to craft refreshing work that tells your story and taps into your audience. Here, we believe everyone deserves to be able to tell that story. In alignment with our mission to make business meaningful, we are thrilled to announce our new pro-bono program for small nonprofits in Iowa.

This initiative will provide vital marketing services to one nonprofit organization each year, pro-bono, in the form of a pre-selected project. Each year, the project type will change, allowing different organizations to apply at different times, depending on interest and need. Project types might include: video, branding, web development, messaging strategy, and more.

Our 2025 Fresh Impact project will feature: the production of a storytelling video.

Below are some storytelling video examples to get you excited and inspired about this process. But these are just that—inspiration. Our project and video will be unique to your organization and your story.

Who Should Apply?

501(c)(3) credited nonprofit organizations within the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Corridor with a yearly operating budget under $350,000, or organizations that are entirely volunteer-run.

What You Get

(2025 Project)

Once selected, de Novo will work with the selected nonprofit to kick off the project, concept and collaborate, and produce an effective video that tells the story of the organization. 2025’s project will include:

  • Kick Off Meeting
  • Concepting/Collaborative Ideation
  • 1 Day of Filming
  • Editing
  • 1 Round of Revisions
  • Final Deliverable: A storytelling video produced by de Novo Marketing, up to five minutes in length.

How It Works

Application

Does the Fresh Impact program sound like a good fit for your organization? Applications are now open for the 2025 Project! We can’t wait to tell your story. Application deadline: February 7, 2025

Selection

A selection committee will review all applications and select a nonprofit by February 14, 2025. The selected nonprofit will be contacted by email with potential kick-off options. If no confirmation is received by February 21, 2025, we will select an alternate recipient.

Ideation

An in-person kickoff meeting will be scheduled to learn more about the organization’s goals and vision for the project. We will collaborate on ideas for the storytelling video and decide on a direction for execution. At de Novo, your goals are our goals, so including you in the ideation process is vital.

Production

Production will take place during Q1 of 2025. This process will include scripting (if applicable), planning, up to one day of shooting, and editing. Your team will have one round of revisions on the video draft to provide feedback.

Delivery

A final video, up to 5 minutes in length, will be completed and delivered no later than March 31st, 2025—ready to be shared with the world to tell your story!
